Shamanic Art in the Twentieth Century.
The History of Shamanism
Complex Cosmologies
Both in South America with the Maya, and in India with Buddhism, Taoism and others, the diversity of the land was huge and so cosmologies emerged to describe the various behaviours of the sea of consciousness. The complexity of this mandala from India is breathtaking and one's mind must be highly developed in order to unravel its structure.

Mandalas such as this one are used for
centring the mind during meditation.

This is an engraving of the Mayan calendar, a
calendar still accurate 4000 years later.
The Mayans left little behind that we currently understand. Huge derelict temples have been found in South America built with architectural techniques still beyond us. The temples themselves give off an aura of mystery and a sense of serenity. They contain complex and precise artwork of a spiritual nature relating information on astronomy, cosmology and mathematics. These remarkable views translate into artwork of quite an abstract nature but still sharing qualities of the earlier geometric forms found in the cave paintings.
